ABSTRACT

Objective To investigate MRI diagnosis of intracranial extra-encephalon cavernous angiomas. Methods In 9 intracranial extra-encephalon cavernous angiomas,5 masses located in the parasellar,2 masses in the lateral ventricle triangle,1 mass in the fourth ventricle and 1 mass in temporal subdural space. The MRI features of the masses were analyzed. Results 5 parasellar cavernous angiomas enclosed the ipsilateral internal carotid artery and extended the saddle. The masses showed homogeneous low intensity on T1WI,high intensity on T2WI,obvious enhancement on enhanced scan.Of 2 cavernous angiomas in the right lateral ventricle triangle, 1 mass showed homogeneous low intensity on T 1WI,high intensity on T2WI,obvious enhancement on enhanced scan;the other mass showed isointensity on T1WI,slight high intensity on T2WI,high intensity on DWI,low intensity on SWI and patchy enhancement on enhanced scan.1 cavernous angioma located in the fourth ventricular showed mixed intensity on T 1WI and T2WI,low signal rim around the mass on T2WI,inhomogeneous high intensity on DWI sequence and little enhancement on enhanced scan.1 mass located in temporal subdural space showed homogeneous low intensity on T 1WI,high intensity on T2WI,low intensity on DWI,isointensity on SWI and homogeneous obvious enhancement on enhanced scan. Conclusion The MRI findings of the intracranial extra-encephalon cavernous angiomas are characteristic. Most masses show homogeneous low intensity on T1WI,high intensity on T2WI and obvious enhancement on enhanced scan. The masses should mainly be distinguished from meningiomas.

ABSTRACT

Purpose:To investigate the value of susceptibility-weighted imaging(SWI)in evaluating the histopathologic grade of cerebral astrocytomas.Materials and Methods: 18 patients with histologically proven cerebral astrocytomas, including 7 diffuse astrocytomas,3 ana-plastic astrocytomas and 8 glioblastomas before treatment were involved in this study. The features on SWI were analyzed in 18 cerebral astrocytomas. Results: The veins in the tumors were not detected in 7 diffuse astrocytomas.Slight edema round tumors appeared in all the diffuse astrocytomas.Plenty veins in the tumors and severe edema round the tumors appeared in 3 anaplastic astrocytomas and 8 glioblastomas. The hemorrhagic foci were detected in 1 anaplastic astrocytomas and 6 glioblastomas. The edema round the tumors were moderate or severe in all the anaplastic astrocytomas or glioblastomas. Conclusions: Susceptibility-weighted imaging can provide the informations about blood supply, hemorrhagic focus and edema round the tumors.SWI is very useful for preoperative evaluation of the histopathologic grade of cerebral astrocytomas, especially for evaluation of high or low grade astrocytomas.

ABSTRACT

Objective To investigate the diagnostic value of low field MRI for adenomyosis. Methods MRI features of adenomyosis pathologically proved in 18 cases were retrospectively analysed. Results 15 cases were diffusive adenomyosis, the junctional zones of uterus were exteusive thickened to 12.0~32.6 mm,mean 16.2 mm,diffusive high signal intensity distributed over in myometrium which was low signal intensity in 11 cases,it was typical “snowing sign”,lower signal intensity in the myometrium in another 4 cases on T 2WI and fat-suppression imaging. A little high signal intensity was found in 6 cases on T 1WI. 3 cases were focal adenomyosis(adenomyoma), 4 lesions totally. The adenomyoma’s boundaries were not distinct and their shapes were roundish or irregular. The lesions were low signal intensity or diffusive high signal intensity distributed in the low signal intensity fields on T 2WI and fat-suppression imaging. A little high signal intensity was found in 2 lesions on T 1WI. Conclusion T 2WI and fat-suppression imaging of low field MRI are very useful techniques of the diagnosis of adenomyosis.
